James Ross Dunn

January 21, 1921 - January 5, 2005

James Ross Dunn, 83, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born January 21, 1921 at Houston, Missouri the son of Alva and Julia Baker Dunn. He married Louise Parascondola on November 21, 1952 at Dwight, Illinois. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Battery B 862nd Field Artillery Battalion. He served in the European Theatre with the United States Army and was awarded five bronze stars. Following the war,he worked for Midwestern Construction Company as a welder and later advanced to superintendent in the pipeline industry. In 1963, with Eugene Staton, he formed a company called, Midway Construction Company. He remained with this company as director and president until 1970. He then started Action Excavation and Action Construction Company in 1983. He sold this company and founded Action Pipeline Construction Company in 1990.Jim received the honor of being inducted into the Pipeliner's Hall of Fame in Houston, Texas at the age of 71. He was an entrepreneur in area real estate and automobile businesses. Jim was a member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Fort Scott, Kansas; VFW, Masonic Lodge and OES of Pleasanton, Mirza Temple and past member of Shrine Mounted Patrol; American Legion, Mound City, Kansas; the Pipliner's Local #798 and the NRA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Dunn and three sisters; Bernie Meirer, Johnnie June Teel and Hattie Wayne. Survivors include his wife, Louise of Pleasanton, Kansas; one son, James Dunn Jr. of Baudette, Minnesota; one daughter, Anita Eakins of Stilwell, Kansas; one brother, Alva Dunn Jr. of Boring,Oregon; two sisters, Viola Shorter of Lansing, Kansas and Peggy Brownback of Omaha, Nebraska and five grandchildren.

 

 

Marjorie Faye Spillman

January 23, 1921 - January 24, 2005

Marjorie Faye Spillman, 84, of Prescott Countryview Nursing Home, formerly of Blue Mound, Kansas, died Monday, January 24, 2005. She was born January 23, 1921 at Elsmore, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Anna Hampton Stanley. Marjorie graduated from Blue Mound High School. She married Ray Spillman in 1938. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1979. She was a homemaker and a member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Orville Edward and two sisters, Bernice Hutchinson and Myrtle Hibbs. Survivors include two sons, Larry Spillman of Louisburg, Kansas and Neal Spillman of Iola, Kansas; one daughter, Connie Cox of Mound City, Kansas; seven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

 

 

Ester Laura Reed

February 10, 1902 - January 26, 2005

Ester Laura Reed, 102, of Pleasanton, Kansas died Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at the Countryview Nursing Home, Prescott, Kansas. Ester was born February 10, 1902 in Leslie, Arkansas, the daughter of John and Samantha Hall Adams. She married Thomas E. Reed who preceded her in death in 1955. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton. Preceding her in death were two daughters, Margaret Reed and Mary Heinz and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons; Tom Reed and wife, Annette of Pleasanton, Kansas and Ronald Reed, also of Pleasanton; one daughter, June Edgar of Austin, Texas; ten grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

 

 

Karen Kay Morse

August 7, 1962 - January 29, 2005

Karen Kay Morse, 42, of Centerville, Kansas, died Saturday, January 29, 2005 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. She was born August 7, 1962 in Clinton, Missouri, the daughter of Alva and Betty Finks West. She graduated from Leeton High School in 1981. She married John Morse on July 19, 1986 at Lee's Summit, Missouri. Karen worked in inventory control for Morse Auto Salvage. She attended the Wall Street Church in Mound City, Kansas and was a member of the P.T.G.., Parker, Kansas. Karen was a volunteer firefighter with the Linn County Rural Fire Department Station #930. She was preceded in death by her father, Alva West. Survivors include her husband, John of the home; two daughters, Tara and Angela Morse; her mother, Betty Green of Osawatomie, Kansas; four brothers; Donald L. West of Springfield, Missouri, Phillip West of Overland Park, Kansas, Richard D. West of Kansas City, Missouri and Mark West of Ozark, Missouri and two sisters, Judith Bennett of Fort Worth, Texas and Patricia Hargrove of Lone Jack, Missouri.

 

 

Kathryn Orr

April 6, 1910 - January 29, 2005

Kathryn Orr, 94, of Kansas City, Missouri, died Saturday, January 29, 2005 at New Mark Care Center, Kansas City, Missouri. She was born April 6, 1910 in Mound City, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest Clarence and Eugenia Norvell Cox. She was married to Reverend Cecil M. Orr on December 12, 1933 at Mound City. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1976. She was a homemaker and member of the Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death also by two sons; Roger and Marian Orr and one brother, Marvin Cox. Survivors include three sons; Marvin Orr of Gladstone, Missouri, Don Orr of Hamilton, Montana and Herb Orr of Arlington, Texas; seventeen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

 

 

Ruby Lee Shaw

May 29, 1918 - February 2, 2005

Ruby Lee Shaw, 86, of Mound City, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Medicalodge Nursing Home, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born May 29, 1918 in Butler, Missouri, the daughter of Earl and Edna Boren Gatlin. She was married to Chester Shaw in 1938 at the Linn County Court House. Ruby was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton, Kansas where she taught Sunday School and was involved with the choir. She was also a member of the Linn County Historical Society and helped form the Linn County Concern. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cora Lee and two sisters, Marie Hamilton and Esther Denny. Survivors include her husband, Chester"Chet" Shaw, Mound City, Kansas; one son, Ernest Lee Shaw and wife, Joyce of Lawrence, Kansas; one grandson, Troy Shaw and his fiance, Jamie; three sisters, Laveta Ward of Cheney, Kansas; Thelma Arbogast of Kansas City, Kansas and Arlene Stark of San Jose, California.

 

 

Lois Faye Wurtz

December 16, 1931 - February 6, 2005

Lois Faye Wurtz, 73, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Sunday, February 6, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born December 16, 1931 in Johnson County, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Iva Ealy Karstetter. She graduated from Spring Hill High School and in 1950 she married Norman Minden. To this union three sons and one daughter were born; Stanley Minden of Granger, Indiana, Mark Minden of Paola, Kansas, Bradley Minden of Omaha, Nebraska and Linda Newton of Houston, Texas. They all survive her. She later married Willie Wurtz in 1975. Lois was a member of the Pleasanton Presbyterian Church. She and Willlie loved to travel and she enjoyed her flowers. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Orville and Don Karstetter. Survivors also include her husband, Willie of Pleasanton, Kansas; three step-sons, Scott Wurtz of Blue Springs, Missouri, Alan Wurtz of Mesa, Arizona and Jim Wurtz of Paola, Kansas; two step-daughters, Susan Willard of Fort Scott, Kansas and Geneva Heckler of Olathe, Kansas; one brother, Ray Karstetter of Harrisonville, Missouri; two sisters, Doris Prothe of Paola, Kansas and Dorothy Guetterman of Bucyrus, Kansas; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; eleven step grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren.

 

 

Ellen Lucille DeMott

September 18, 1911 - February 28, 2005

Ellen Lucille DeMott, 93, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, February 28, 2005 at Fort Scott Manor Nursing Home, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born September 18, 1911, south of Pleasanton, Kansas on what is now known as the site of the "Battle of Mine Creek". She was the daughter of Emmit and Eulah Lou Blount Peare. Ellen attended grade school at Antioch School and later attended high school in Pleasanton. She married Claude Gentry DeMott at Girard, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1985. Although Ellen had no children, she always enjoyed children very much. She and her husband resided all of their lives in and around Pleasanton, with the exception of ten months in Overland Park, Kansas. Ellen worked for Ed Hoag in his clothing store and later she worked for 12 years for Kathryn Lhuillier in the Variety Store. She was a member of the William Creekmore Chapter as long as it was in existence and a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton since 1942.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, R.J. Peare and one sister,Virginia Peare. Survivors include one sister, Kathryn Peare Hayes of Lee's Summit, Missouri; eight nieces and nephews and many friends.

 

 

Donna Lindell

February 11, 1942 - February 28, 2005

Donna Lindell, 63, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, February 28, 2005 at Wichita, Kansas. She was born February 11, 1942 in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of John and Loraine Hawley Ary. She graduated from high school at Greensburg, Kansas, attended Dodge City Community College and received her Bachelor's and Masters Degrees from Emporia State University. She married Francis Lindell on June 4, 1966. She was High School Librarian for the Prairie View Kansas School District. Donna was a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Mark Ary. Survivors include her husband, Francis of Pleasanton, Kansas; two sons, Scott Lindell of Pleasanton, Kansas and Jim Lindell and wife, Stacie of Overland Park, Kansas; one daughter, Terese Crouse and husband, Chad of Bel Aire, Kansas; four brothers, Noel Ary of Dodge City, Kansas; her twin brother, Dennis Ary of Vian, Oklahoma; Darrel Ary of Greensburg, Kansas and Max Ary of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; Skyelyn, Stephen and Savannah Crouse and Madeline Lindell.

 

 

Gordy Phillips Jr.

February 1, 1925 - March 7, 2005

Gordy Phillips Jr., 80, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, March 7, 2005 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born February 1, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of F. Gorodess and Opal E. (Phillips) Phillips. He was a safety engineer for Home Insurance and a served with the United States Army during World War II. He married Mary Forshay on June 29, 1946 at Des Moines, Iowa. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three sons F. Gorodess "Scoop" Phillips III, of Overland Park, Kansas; James D. Phillips of San Francisco, California and Major Mark E. Phillips and wife, Terri of Alexandria, Virginia; one grandson, Steven Phillips and two sisters, Dianne Kelley of Phoenix, Arizona and Barbara Rusk of Aimes, Iowa.

 

 

Morris S. Ison

September 5, 1921 - March 14, 2005

Morris Smith Ison, 83 of Mound City, Kansas, died Monday, March 14, 2005 at Life Care Center of Osawatomie, Kansas. He was born September 5, 1921 in Pleasanton, Kansas, the son of Oscar Schuyler and Myrtle Alice Martin Ison. At the age of four, he went to live with his uncle and aunt, Bert and Nellie Martin. He married Carol Nadine Hall on February 14, 1942 at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Pleasanton, Kansas. He lived 62 years on the farm where he was raised. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Air Force. Morris was self-employed as a real estate agent, prior to his retirement.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Hewitt-New Post and Masonic Lodge, all of Mound City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty. Survivors include his wife, Nadine of Mound City, Kansas; two sons, David Ison and wife, Lois of Berryton, Kansas and Martin Ison and wife, Merideth of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Laurita Kalheim of Seattle, Washinton; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the United Methodist Church, Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 7-8pm, Wednesday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City. Contributions are suggested to the Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Pleasanton Cemetary, Pleasanton, Kansas.

 

 

Anna Bailey

March 28, 1923 - April 3, 2005

Anna Elizabeth C. Bailey, 82, of Mound City, Kansas, died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at her home. She was born March 28, 1923 in Dexter, Kansas, the daughter of Roy and Anna Chamblin. She married Jack Bailey on July 9, 1942 in Leavenworth, Kansas. She was a homemaker and member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. Anna was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles and Bill Chamblin and one sister, Frances Guthrie. Survivors include her husband, Jack of Mound City, Kansas; two sons; William Bailey and wife, Sheila of Lansing, Kansas and Ralph Bailey and wife, Karen of McClouth, Kansas; one daughter, Dianna Mecham and husband, Leon, Firth, Idaho; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. Committal services will be held at 2:00 PM at Mt. Muncie Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. Contributions are suggested to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. Arrangements: Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City, Kansas.

 

 

Kaye Gueltzau

November 6, 1938 - April 3, 2005

Kaye Hardenbrook Gueltzau, 66, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born November 6, 1938 in Spokane, Washington, the daughter of Wilhelm and Rufena Qualls Keith. She was married to Don Hardenbrook who preceded her in death in 1987. She later married Gene Gueltzau. Kaye was a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton, Kansas. Survivors include her husband, Gene of Pleasanton, Kansas; one brother, L.R. Keith of Ritzville, Washington; and her extended family, the Virginia McCammon family.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 8, 2005 at Pleasanton Cemetery, Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the Coffel-Schneider chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. A memorial fund in Kaye’s memory has been established c/o the funeral home. Arrangements: Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Pleasanton, Kansas.

 

 

Pauline "Sis" Boswell

April 16, 1920 - April 9, 2005

Pauline "Sis" Boswell, age 84 of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of LaCygne, Kansas passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. She was born April 16, 1920 in LaCygne, Kansas, the daughter of Dana Eli McClanahan and Lucille Pauline McCarty Boswell. She married Chester Boswell on September 22, 1934 in Paola, Kansas. They shared 57 years together before his death on October 27, 1991. She was the owner and operator of Boswell's House of Fabric in LaCygne for many years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, a contributor to the Arts & Crafts Fair, known as the "Linn County Doll Maker". She moved to Olathe to live with her daughter after her health failed.

She is survived by a son, Jerry Boswell and wife, Wanda of LaCygne, Kansas; a daughter, Shirley Ann Conner of Olathe, Kansas, 5 grandchildren, Cindy Salinas, Jenny Lynn Conner, Ed Boswell, Jerry Boswell Jr., and Terry Bosell Sr. 13 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Chester, 2 brothers, Charles and Irwin McClanahan and a grandchild, Sharon "Sid" Tipp on April 3, 2005.

 

 

Ann A. Ohrazda Keyes

November 12, 1934 - April 13, 2005

Ann A. Ohrazda Keyes, age 70 of LaCygne, Kansas passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas.  She was born November 12, 1934 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of John Ohrazda and Genevive Jaynes.

She married Eugene Keyes and to this union two daughters were born.  She was a homemaker and a mother.  She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, LaCygne.

She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Knoche, and Mary Rose Darling both of LaCygne a sister Mary Schloegel of Raytown, Missouri, 6 grandchildren, Ricky, Joshua, Jenna, Zach, Kylie, Jordana and one great grandchild, Lily. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene on January 11, 1993 and a sister, Margaret Rose Whalen, 2 brothers, John Ohrazda Jr. and Harry Ohrazda.

 

William G. (Bill) Chambers

March 31, 1933 - April 18, 2005

William G. (Bill) Chambers passed away at his home on April 18, 2005, in La Cygne, following a lengthy illness. His wife, Shirley, family and friends surrounded him. He was born March 31, 1933, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Robert T. and Ruth Lee (Godman) Chambers.

His mother, father and his infant son, William G. Chambers Jr., preceded him in death as well as his brothers, Robert James (Jim) Chambers, John Joseph (Joe) Chambers and Donald Lee (Don) Chambers; his brothers-in-law, Vernon Long, Dennis Duncan and John Parker; and son-in-law, Stephen M. Lawrence.

He leaves this world with many loved ones: Shirley, his remarkable wife of 52 years; daughters, Ruth Lawrence, Susan and husband Kenny Walker, Janet and husband Walt Eldridge, and Linda Jo Chambers and Steve Hisel; son, Robert G. Chambers and wife Jamie, along with 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sister, Jaunita Long; sisters-in-law, Virginia Chambers, Sara Chambers, Donna Parker, Doris Belcher, Sue Duncan and Barbara Duncan; brothers-in-law, Dean Duncan and Ralph Belcher; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bill joined the U.S. Navy in 1951. He married Shirley Ann Duncan Sept. 12, 1953, beginning their family in 1954, which continued to grow every two or three years until 1963. In 1961 he left the Navy. In 1965 he opened a ready-mix plant, Mo-Kan Concrete, and became a legend in the industry. The late ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s it was life in the fast lane of construction companies, more ready-mix plants, flatwork crews, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandkids, developments and even oil refineries – followed by heart attacks, bypass surgeries and knee replacements. In 1989 his failing health forced him to retire. He moved to La Cygne where he got in a few small ventures but spent most of his time with his family and friends.

Bill had always loved the outdoors and following retirement he was able to spend more time on his farms, tending to his cattle and frequenting the sale barns. He was called “Papa” by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and to almost everyone else he came in contact with. His generous, warm, kind and loving spirit kindled friendships beyond measure and he will be missed very much.

In lieu of floral offerings, the family suggests a memory in his honor made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, La Cygne, Kan. 66040.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, La Cygne.

Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in La Cygne, Friday, April 22, 2005, at 11:30 a.m.

Interment will be in the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan., following the funeral mass in La Cygne.

 

 

Grace Leona Allen

April 7, 1908 - April 18, 2005

Grace Leona Allen, 97, of Prescott, Kansas, died Monday, April 18, 2005 at Prescott Country View Nursing Home where she had resided since 1995.   She was born April 7, 1908 in Phillipsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Ambrose Robert and Iva May Perry Kite.  She married Harry Allen on June 11, 1944 at Prescott United Methodist Church.  He preceded her in death on December 26, 1995.  She was a member of the Prescott United Methodist Church since 1921; where she taught Sunday School and was also a member of UMW and Prescott EHU. She was a school teacher and homemaker. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 21, 2005 at the Prescott United Methodist Church, Prescott, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 7-8 PM, Wednesday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas.  Contributions are suggested to the United Methodist Women.  Interment will be in Prescott Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Pleasanton, Kansas.

 

 

J. Elliott Sears

May 1, 1923 - April 20, 2005

J. Elliott Sears, 81, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas.  He was born May 1, 1923 in Elgin, Illinois, the son of Elliott C. and Hazel Avery Sears.  He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy. He married Carole Crews on November 27, 1971 at Harvard, Illinois. He was employed as an electrician and was a member of the Electricians Union Local #365.  He was also a member of the VFW, Pleasanton; the American Legion and Royal Order of Moose.

Survivors include his wife, Carole, Pleasanton, Kansas; one son, John E. Sears; one daughter, Sara; two step-daughters, Stephanie Savage and Kimberly Brubaker; two brothers, Theron and David Sears; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

At his request, Mr. Sears was cremated.  A private family gathering will be at a later date.  The family has suggested contributions to "The Seeing Eye" c/o the funeral home.

 

 

Edward L. Hamel

February 22, 1933 - April 24, 2005

Edward Logan Hamel, 72, of Hume, Missouri, died Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Missouri.  He was born February 22, 1933 in Marion, Illinois, the son of John Dewey and Edith Ellen Hamel.  He married Janice Sue Wampler on June 1, 1954 at Phoenix City, Alabama.  She preceded him in death on January 30, 2004.  He was self employed as a welder and served as president of the Henry Township Board.  Edward was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janice; one brother, Bill Hamel and one sister, Lucille Hill.   Survivors include two sons; John Hamel of Hume, Missouri and James Richard Hamel of Kansas City, Kansas; two daughters, Janice Carter of Hume, Missouri and Vickey Shirley of Columbia, Missouri; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

 

Marguerite Wright

January 4, 1916 - April 25, 2005

Marguerite Wright, 89, of Blue Mound, Kansas, died Monday, April 25, 2005 at Moran Manor Nursing Home, Moran, Kansas. She was born January 4, 1916 in Blue Mound, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Mary Clark Rogers. She married Estel Wright on November 29, 1935 at Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1995. She was a member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church and the Stitch Chatter Club.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Thomas Rogers; two sisters, Edith Shaw and Violet Thompson, one grandchild and a daughter-in-law, Susan. Survivors include two sons; Allen Wright of Owego, New York and Don Wright wife, Sylvia of Overland Park, Kansas; one daughter, Betty Adams husband, Ed of Humboldt, Kansas; three sisters, Kathleen Getty and Mary Pasia , both of Topeka, Kansas and Elma Renfro, Mayetta, Kansas; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 29, 2005 at the Blue Mound Methodist Church, Blue Mound, Kansas.Vistiation will be from 7-8 PM, Thursday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. Contributions are suggested to the church. Interment will be in Sunny Slope Cemetery, Blue Mound, Kansas. Arrangements are under the direction of the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City, Kansas.

 

 

May Alice Cash

May 17, 1908 - April 26, 2005

May Alice Cash, 96, of Mound City, Kansas, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett, Kansas. She was born May 17, 1908 in Mound City, Kansas, the daughter of Henry Harrison and Lillie Edna Akers Augur. She graduated from Mound City High School in 1931. She married Cecil Cash on April 22, 1931. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1990.

May was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church, Mound City; Mound City Senior Citizens and the Busy Dozen Club. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Lester Augur and three grandchildren.

Survivors include one son; Henry Cash of Kansas City, Missouri; four daughters; Wilma McIntosh and Mary Fagg, both of Garnett, Kansas; Lillian Cash of Scammon, Kansas and Colleen Troth of Pleasanton, Kansas; seventeen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.

 

Evelyn Marie Russell

June 14, 1930 - April 26, 2005

Evelyn Marie Russell, age74, of LaCygne, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. She was born June 14, 1930, the daughter of Delbert James Cornett and Viola Alice Rookstool (Cornett) After graduating from high School, she worked as a Secretary for several years before marrying James Ervin Russell on March 17, 1951 in Kansas City, Kansas.   She was a mother and homemaker who enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing and fishing.  She attended the LaCygne Christian Church and the Beagle Methodist Church.

She is survived by 2 sons, David Russell and wife, Michelle of Erie, Kansas, Jeffrey Russell and wife, Allison of Garnett, kansas, a daughter, Cynthia Johnson of Louisburg, kansas, 3 brothers, Delbert, James and Ernest Cornett; five grandhcildren, Joshua and Tara Russell, Christine, Jennifer and Jeremiah Johnson and two great grandchildren, Madison Dillow and Lyric Russell. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ervin who died on November 20, 2002, and a brother, John Cornett.

 

Bertha May Weese Williams

March 31, 1919 - April 26, 2005

Bertha May Weese Williams, age 85, of Leavenworth, formerly of Linn County, Kansas, died Thursday, April 26, 2005 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lansing, Kansas. She was born on March 31, 1919 in Topeka, the daughter of Willis and Louise K. Weickert Weese. She was a homemaker and a probate judge in Barber County for over six years. She married James G. Green Williams on August 19, 1930. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1963. She was also preceded in death by three sisters; Alice Kaaz, Louise Lemmons and Katherine Schuck and one grandson.

She was a member of the Hume Christian Church , a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Kansas Peace Officers Association, and Business and Professional Women. She also enjoyed playing bridge and oil painting. She is survived by two daughters, Lou Banks of Leavenworth and Ruth Hathaway of Greenville, S.C.; one brother, Robert Weese of Mound City, Kansas; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

 

 

Norman Barber

December 23, 1926 - April 30, 2005

Norman Dean Barber, age 78, of LaCygne, Kansas, died Saturday, April 30, 2005 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. He was born December 23, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri to Hugh and Sybil Stewart Barber. After high school he joined the Navy and served 20 years before retiring. Norman married Thelma Odean on october 25, 1956. He was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Kansas City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma on September 9, 1984 and both parents. Norman is suvived by his Aunt Darline Lawton of Independence, Missouri; three cousins, Annette Manley and her husband, Bob, Wanda Lay and her husband, Charlie, all of Independence, Missouri and Carol Johnson and her husband, Harvey of Gladstone, Missouri.

 

 

Lois Irwin

May 9, 1906 - May 4, 2005

Lois M. Irwin, age 98, of LaCygne, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at the Louisburg Care Center, Louisburg, Kansas. She was born May 9, 1906 in Amoret, Missouri the daughter of Edwin Franklin Rush and Margaret May Taylor (Rush). She married William Frederick Irwin on August 13, 1935 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Two daughters were born to this union. In addition to being a wife and mother, she taught music in Parker, Miami R1 and Lacygne schools for over 35 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter CV in LaCygne, Miami County Retired Teachers Association, TRR and United Methodist women. She is survived by two daughters, Martha Risley and husband, Kenneth of Overland Park, Kansas, Barbara Baird and husband, Clayton of Parker, Kansas. 3 brothers, Ellis, James and Howard Rush; a sister, Jane Furkin, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frederick on July 5, 1979 and two brothers, Paul and John Rush.

 

 

Mabel A. Stites

Mabel A. Stites, 92, of Shawnee, Kansas, formerly of Parker, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 at the Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center, Shawnee, Kansas. She is survived by 2 sons, Ray A. Stites and wife, Nelda of Sun City, Arizona; Walter S. Stites and wife, Brenda of Shawnee, Kansas and a daughter, Carol Prentice, Shawnee, Kansas.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 13, 2005 at the United Methodist Church, Parker, Kansas with burial in Goodrich Cemetery, Parker. Visitation is from 7-8PM, Thursday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, LaCygne, Kansas. The Family suggests contributions to the National Parkinson's Foundtion.

 

 

Debra Lynn Roberson

Debra Lynn Roberson, 47, of Wichita, Kansas, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005. She was born September 19, 1957 in Kansas City, Kansas.

She is survived by her mother, Donna O'Brien of Pleasanton, Kansas and her father, William Banks; two sons, John Wesley Banks of Wichita, Kansas and Gary Sims of Kansas City, Kansas; one daughter, Latisha Cox of Independence, Missouri; two brothers, William Charles Banks and Fred Spickler; five sisters, Marybeth Scott, Penny Ross, Jackie Barrett, Regina Whitaker and Donna Peters; six grandchildren and her companion, Richard Brumley.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 13, 2005 at Prescott Cemetery, Prescott, Kansas. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, KS. Contributions may be made to the Debra Roberson Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.

 

 

Wilma Fern Bollinger Harrison

January 17, 1907 - September 11, 2004

Wilma Fern Bollinger Harrison, 98, of Washington, DC, died September 11, 2004. She was born January 17, 1907 in Mapleton, Kansas, the daughter of Peter Washington and Eva May Findley Bolllinger. Wilma received her Christian baptism at the age of 13, in Kaw City, Oklahoma. After completing high school and a one year course at A&M College in Stillwater, Oklahoma, she attended Chillicothe Business College. She moved to Washington, DC to work for the U.S. Civil Service, where she met and married John Ward Harrison on September 9, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1974. Also preceding her were her parents and two brothers, Harold and Frank Bollinger.

Wilma was cremated. Her cremains will be inurned at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 21, 2005 at Mapleton Cemetery in the family plot next to her husband, John Ward Harrison.

 

 

Wilbur Boyd

February 21, 1917 - May 21, 2005

Wilbur Boyd, 88, of Blue Mound, Kansas, died Saturday, May 21, 2005 at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Humboldt, Kansas. He was born February 21, 1917 in Blue Mound, Kansas, the son of Charles and Alma Orm Boyd. Wilbur was self-employed as a carpenter and painter. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; his twin brother, Wilmer; Elvin, Guy, Lloyd, Clyde, Myron & Vernon Boyd; and one sister, Zola Sisson Rodrock. Survivors include two sisters; Ivalea "Pat" Duke and Leona Fraser, both of Lancaster, California; two sisters-in-law; Polly Boyd of Cerritos, California and Mae Boyd of Pleasanton, Kansas.

Mr. Boyd was cremated. Private family inurnment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Blue Mound, Kansas.

 

 

Louis John "L.J." Oliver

April 27, 1915 - May 18, 2005

Louis John "L.J." Oliver, 90, of Mound City, Kansas, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 in Johnson County, Texas. He was born April 27, 1915 in Johnson County, Texas, the son of John Louis and Frances Prince Oliver. After graduating from the local schools he went to work in the oil fields. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army in the 38811-2500 12th Field Hospital. His unit landed from England at night on Normandy Beach and walked to trucks which took them to Cherbourg. They crossed the Rhine River and treated hundreds of casualties from the Battle of the Bulge. They were glad to see our bombers come after the storms cleared. He returned from the war and went to work for the Pontiac Refinery (later Champlin Oil) in Corpus Christi, Texas until retirement. He married Louise Weaver on January 31, 1947 at Mound City, Kansas. They lived in Corpus Christi, Texas until his retirement and then lived in Cleberne, Texas and Mound City, Kansas until Louise's death on February 28, 1998.

He continued to live in Mound City and rarely missed drinking coffee with friends at Jayhawk Inn each morning and enjoyed all of them. He made frequent trips to Texas to visit his double cousins Fred Prince and Bertha Todd in Alvarado. He fell and broke a hip and they took good care of him for 10 months until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, his parents and three sisters, Rosa, Alli Mae and Viola. Survivors include Louise's nieces and nephews; Maurice Brown and wife, Nadine, Centerville, Kansas; Lela Gene Hinkle and husband, Pete, Iola, Kansas; Velma Jean Brown, Fort Scott, Kansas; Mary E. Brown, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Shirley Brotherton, Shreveport, Louisiana and Charles Weaver, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 23, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. Contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Mound City, Kansas.

 

 

Billy Joe Hewitt

August 6, 1939 - May 30, 2005

Billy Joe Hewitt, age 65, of Chanute, Kansas and formerly of LaCygne, Kansas, died Monday, May 30, 2005 at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. Billy was born on August 6, 1939 in Miami County, Kansas to F. M. Jack and Velma Rogers Hewitt. Billy joined the U.S. Navy in 1957 and obtained the rank of Signalman 1st Class. on December 13, 1959, he married Joyce Terry at the LaCygne Christian Church in LaCygne, Kansas. Over the years Billy worked as a truck driver for Victorian marble, John Troutman, and Southwest Freight Lines. Later he worked for S.P. Telecom that later became Qwest Communications as a Senior Planning Engineer retiring in July of 2004. He was a member of the LaCygne Christian Church and attended the Living Word Assembly Church in Chanute, Kansas. He was also a member of the Meadowlark Sams Camping Club. He was past mayor and city councilman of LaCygne. He was also involved in two phases of Kansas City Power and Light. He was instrumental in establishing the city park at LaCygne, bringing cable television to LaCygne and setting up the LaCygne Ambulance service.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; one son, Chris Hewitt; one daughter, Cheri Bunch and her husband, Scotty, all of Chanute, Kansas; two brothers, Jack Hewitt of Malden, Illinois and Larry Hewitt of Olathe, Kansas; four sisters, Virginia McGee and Joyce Hewitt, both of LaCygne, Kansas, Judy Green of Shell Knob, Missouri and Dorothy Combs of Shawnee, Kansas; five grandchildren, Josh, Ashli, Caleb, Luke and Josia"Joe".

Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 3, 2005 at the LaCygne Christian Church, LaCygne, Kansas. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaCygne. Contributions are suggested to either the Chanute Christian Academy, Fire Escape Coffee House, or Sweet Mercies.

 

 

Hayes L. Martin

June 24, 1925 - June 3, 2005

Hayes L. Martin, 79, of Louisburg, Kansas formerly of Lacygne, Kansas passed away Friday, June 3, 2005 at the Louisburg Care Center. He was born June 24, 1925 in Osawatomie, KS, the son of Hazel Leroy Martin and Gertrude Mary Benton (Martin).

He married Ida Elizabeth Sullivan on August 12, 1954 in Paola, Kansas. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for many years and retired in March 1989 as a Foreman. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He attended the Baptist Church in Lacygne, served on the LaCygne City Council, also served as Fire Chief as well as mayor of Lacygne for 2 terms. He was also a Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge in Osawatomie, Kansas and a member of the master Angler Association. He is survived by a daughter, Earnesteen Bracy of Olathe, Kansas, 2 step sons, Clifford Boyd of LaCygne, Kansas, Nathan Boyd of Indianapolis, Indiana and Tom York of Louisburg, KS, a sister, Hazel Wilhoite, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ida Elizabeth Martin on January 22, 2003 and 2 brothers, John and Otis Martin.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 11, 2005 at the Calvary Baptist Church, LaCygne, Kansas with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-10:00 AM, Saturday at the church. Contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.

 

 

Ida Cleo Driskill Stites

September 21, 1913 - June 4, 2005

Ida Cleo Driskill Stites passed away on June 4, 2005 at the Louisburg Care Center in Louisburg, KS. She was born September 21, 1913, the daughter of Marion and Prudie Baston Driskill near Pleasanton, KS. She grew up in the Richland Community near Farlinville and attended grade school at the Potosi Community School. She later attended High School in Mound City. She was united in marriage to Vail Stites on November 22, 1933 in Mound City, KS. To this union two sons were born, Marion Wallace and Marvin Vail Stites. She and her husband Vail, lived their entire lives in Linn County. They moved to the Stites family farm in 1951 where she resided until she moved to LaCygne, KS following the death of her husband. Ida Cleo was a member of the Parker United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she taught Sunday school classes, played the piano and sang in the choir as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the Loyal Workers neighborhood club and sang in the Amazaing Grace Choir.

She is survived by two sons; Marion Stites and wife, Patricia of Paola, KS; and Marvin Stites and wife, Louise of Centerville, KS; 4 grandchildren, Lonnie Stites and wife, Angela of Spring Hill, KS, Dale Stites and wife, JoAnn of Centerville, KS; Rita Stites Greufe of Olathe, KS and April Hite and husband, Ken of Lawrence, KS; 8 great grandchildren, Logan, Garrett, Briana Stites, Amy and Michelle Greufe, Isaiah, Elijah and Malachi Hite. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vail on January 6, 2000, one brother, Marion Carl Driskill and 3 sisters, Glenna McRae, Mary Flo Stark and Esther Grace Hodgson.

Eugene L. Richardson

August 11, 1911 - June 7, 2005

Eugene L. Richardson, 93, of Camden, Arkansas, formerly of Mound City, KS died Tuesday, June 7, 2005. He was born August 11, 1911 in Centralia, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Richardson; his daughter, Anna Belle; his father and other, Walter and Icie Richardson; his brothers, Aubry, Morris and Earnest Richardson; his sister, Anna Mae Gittings; and his second wife, Bertha Richardson. Eugene is survived by one sister, Maxine Holderman of Osawatomie, KS and three sons, Leslie E. Richardson of Mound City, KS, Eldon L. Richardson of Jonesboro, Ark., and Sheldon D. Richardson of Camden, Ark. He leaves behind many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren and friends.

Graveside services will be held at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Mound City, at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 11, 2005. Visitation will be at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel in Mound City from 6-8 PM, Friday, June 10.

Bertha G. Cook, 76, of Butler, MO, formerly of Amsterdam, Mo, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2005 at the Willow Lane Nursing Center, Butler. She was born January 1, 1929 near Adrian, MO, the daughter of Grover and Olive Elliott Abnot. She married Junior Edwin Cook on June 25, 1951 at Amsterdam, MO. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1981. In addition to being a wife & mother, she worked on the assembly line for Bass Busters in Amsterdam, MO. She also attended the Amsterdam Baptist Church.

She is survived by 2 sons; Michael Cook of Dallas, TX & Dennis Cook & wife, Shannon of Clinton, MO; 2 daughters, Susan Jackson & husband, Irl of Amsterdam, MO and Belinda Wiltshire & husband, Guy of Dallas, TX; one brother, Kenneth Abnot of Harrisonville, MO; 4 sisters, Helen Cox of Lacygne, KS, Anna Lee Cummins of Amoret, MO, Norma Hoover of Deer Trail, Colorado and Jessie Stiemel of Evergreen, Colorado; 17 Grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren. She was preceded also by 3 sons; Ronald Cook who died in infancy, Wade Cook on December 10, 1988 and Edwin Cook, 2 sisters Mabel Murray & Gertrude Comer and a niece, Glenna Murray.

Jean Schmelzla, 72, of Prescott, Kansas, died Monday, June 13, 2005 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born November 23, 1932 in Oregon County, Missouri, the daughter of George and Hazel Strain Giesken.. She married Gerald Schmelzla on May 4, 1957 at Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1978. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ in Fort Scott, Kansas. She was preceded in death also by her parents; one sister, Shirley Swopes and one nephew, Doug Shaner.. Survivors include one son, Scott Schmelzla of Pittsburg, Kansas; one daughter, Susan Roberts and husband, Ron of Prescott, Kansas; one brother, Jake Giesken & wife, Glenda of Maryville, Missouri; two sisters, Jo Shaner and husband, Merlin and Georgia Fletcher and husband, Donnie, all of Eldorado Springs, Missouri; her uncle, Joe Giesken; two aunts, Mary Gallagher and Monica Zirphas and husband, Willie; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Hazel Lafern Johnston

June 13, 1916 - June 13, 2005

Hazel Lafern Johnston, 89, of Blue Mound, Kansas, died Monday, June 13, 2005 at Medicalodge Nursing Home, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born June 13, 1916 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Forrest Allen and Edna Myrtle Vance Spencer. She was married to Robert Johnston Jr. on March 6, 1937 and to this union one son and three daughters were born. Hazel was a homemaker who enjoyed her flowers and loved to cook. Some of her specialties were cookies, cinnamon rolls and donuts, bread, homemade ice cream and Pond Horse. She was preceded in death by her son, Forrest "Bud" Johnston who died in 1993 and three brothers, Elmer, Howard and Charles Spencer; and three great grandchildren. Survivors include her three daughters, Leona Dreyer of Salina, Kansas; Edna F. Stein of Claremore, Oklahoma and Gertrude Harper of Fort Scott, Kansas; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 18, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 7-8 PM, Friday at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Interment will be in Curry Cemetery, Mound City, KS.

 

 

Gordon A. Read

December 22, 1921 - June 25, 2005

Gordon A. Read, 83, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Saturday, June 25, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. He was born December 22, 1921 in Rice Lake, Wisconson, the son of Robley and Mamie Faurot Read. He served with the United States Army during World War II. On August 25, 1950, he married Golda Brown. She preceded him in death on June 17, 1986. He later married Bonnie Giles Miller who also preceded him October 7, 1999. He was a member of the United Methodist Church the VFW Post #862 of Pleasanton, Kansas and the Hewitt-New American Legion Post, Mound City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vain and Charlie and three sisters; Mable, Velma and Lela. Survivors include his daughter, Rosalie Baugh of Pleasanton, Kansas; two sisters, Hazel Hoard of Tacoma, Washington and Marion Jennie of Wisconsin two grandsons; Kirk and Kenneth Baugh and three granddaughters.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be from 7-8 PM Tuesday at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Methodist Church, Pleasanton, Kansas. Interment will be in Pleasanton Cemetery.

 

 

Cleda Mae Patterson

February 26, 1913 - June 29, 2005

Cleda Mae Patterson, 92, of LaCygne, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at Willow Lane Nursing Home, Butler, Missouri. She was born February 26, 1913 on the family farm near LaCygne, Kansas, the only child of Charley and Laura Gooden Miller. Her grandparents had settled on this farm in 1870. She married Virgil Patterson on April 23, 1932 in Louisburg, Kansas. During their 36 years of marriage, they lived on the farm at Boicourt and Pleasanton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1968.

Cleda was a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton, EHU, Grange, Mail Carriers Auxiliary, LaCygne Historical Society and Order of Eastern Star (LaCygne). She had served on the election board and was serving on the 96 Cemetery board. She is survived by two sons; Joe Patterson and wife, Norma of Springdale, Arkansas and Jim Patterson and wife, Judy of Pleasanton, Kansas; three grandsons; one granddaughter and four great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 2, 2005 at the Calvary Baptist Church, LaCygne, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the 96 Cemetery. Interment will be in 96 Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Pleasanton, Kansas.

 

 

Donald M Pease

February 3, 1936 - July 15, 2005

Donald M. Pease, 69, of Linn Valley, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 15, 2005 at his home. He was born February 3, 1936 in LaCygne, Kansas, the son of Glenn Pease and Alice Lee Pease. He attended Kansas State University earning a BS in Industrial Engineering and then attended graduate school in Chicago while working for Western Electric. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict in a Labor Camp in Germany. He married Susan Ross on June 15, 1957 at the Methodist church in LaCygne, Kansas. Since 1972, he was the owner and President/CEO of the Linn County Bank in LaCygne, retiring on January 1, 2000. During his years as a banker, he was an aggressive banker opening additional facilites in Pleasanton, Kansas and Lenexa,Kansas. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and for many years served as Chairman of the Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #61, Mirza Temple, Pittsburg, Kansas, Scottish Rite Consistory in Fort Scott, Kansas and served on the LaCygne Medical Board, the Senior Housing Board and was Vice President of the Southeast Kansas Bankers Association.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan Pease of the home; two daughters, Danna Pease of Linn Valley, and Donna Sue Foreman and husband, Patrick of LaCygne, Kansas; a brother, Harold Pease of Linn Valley, Kansas; three sisters, Nadine Fritts Kenney, Ruth Anne Potts and Mary Kathryn Nicholson; three grandchildren, Daniel Peterson, Donielle Foreman and Dalinda Foreman and two nieces, Brandy Kalinka and Krisin Ross, that he treated and loved as his own. He was a patient, warm and quiet individual who will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth Lee Pease and a sister, Lorene E. Allee.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 18, 2005 at the United Methodist Church, LaCygne, Kansas. Cremation following the funeral service. Memorial contributions can be made to the United Methodist Church, LaCygne, Kansas or Shriner's Children's Hospital.

 

 

Sarah Bertha Groothouse

June 20, 1920 - June 16, 2005

Sarah Bertha Groothouse, 85, of LaCygne, Kansas, died Saturday June 16, 2005 at Miami County Medical Center, Paola, Kansas. She was born June 20, 1920 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Harry and Ida Reed Harris. She attended school at Morse Central Jr. High School and Argentine High School in Kansas City, Kansas. She married Joseph L. Zweimiller in 1938 and to this union one child, Joseph L. Zweimiller was born. The marriage ended in divorce. She married Albert Lucas in 1941 and to this union one child, a daughter; Marie was born and died at birth. This marriage ended in divorce. In 1945, she married John Groothouse and to this union one child, a daughter, Johnnye Ann Groothouse was born. John and Bertha lived in Armourdale until 1951 when the flood claimed their home. They moved to Kansas City, Kansas for a few years then to the Highland Crest District until retiring to laCygne, Kansas in 1975. Bertha worked at many jobs during the war, but worked 27 years for Colgate Palmolive before retiring and moving to LaCygne.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Zweimiller & wife, Angela of Overland Park, Kansas. a daughter, Johnnye Ann Lane & husband, Billy of LaCygne, KS; her grandchildren, Kerri Quintana of Shawnee, Kansas; Karyn Eastwood of Fontana, KS; John Wm. Lane, Sara K. Wilmurth, both or LaCygne, KS; Shannon Sandness of Shawnee, KS; Michael Lane of LaCygne, KS and Eric Zweimiller with the United States Marine Corp on the USS Carl Vinson; her great grandchildren; Julie D. Burris & husband, Tony of Centerville, KS; Justin Quintana of Shawnee, KS; Jennifer Eastwood of Fontana, KS; Johanna & Johnny Lane of Anchorage, Alaska; Allyson Lane of Oregon, Ian Raynard and Ciara Jane Sandness of Shawnee, KS; Gracye Ann Wilmurth of LaCygne, KS; her former daughter-in-law; Susan J. Zweimiller, ; a sister, Catherine West of LaCygne, KS; several nieces and nephews; family & friends. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, John on August 9, 1989; a brother, John H. Harris and infant daughter, Marie.

She loved collecting Kewpie dolls and doing genealogy. It was her love of genealogy that led her to serve on the Library Board at LaCygne for several years. She enjoyed keeping in touch with everyone by writing letters and sending cards. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She always made everyone feel at home as though they had known her many years even when meeting her for the first time.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 20th at Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaCygne, KS; Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Tuesday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, LaCygne. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.

 

 

Brenda Stevens

February 22, 1960 - July 21, 2005

Brenda Stevens age 45 of Olathe, Kansas formerly of Pleasanton, Kansas died Thursday July 21, 2005 at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born on February 22, 1960 at Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Paul and Lydia Jo New Kurtz. She was baptized at the Pleasanton Baptist Church and recently attended the New Life Pentecostal Church. She married Virgil Stevens on March 1, 1977 at Belton, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lydia Jo Kurtz on October 2, 1996, and a grandson Travis Shaw on November 20, 2001. She is survived by her husband Virgil of the home, her father, Paul Kurtz, of Pleasanton; three daughters: Jennifer Shaw of Kansas City, Kansas, Crystal Stevens of Olathe, Kansas, and Gina Faulkner of Norfolk, Virginia; one sister Marsha Brown of Pleasanton, Kansas and six grandchildren: Bailie, Austin, Isaac, Paige, Nicholas and Wyatt.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday July 25, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Kansas. Burial will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery. Carrie Evalena McGrew

January 12, 1910 - July 21, 2005

Carrie Evalena McGrew, age 95, of Mound City, KS, died Thursday, July 21, 2005 at the Country View Nursing Home, Prescott, Kansas. She was born January 12, 1910 at Pleasanton, Kansas to Otis H. and Evalena May Phillips Smith. Carrie's mother passed away at child birth. Her grandmother, Libbie Wakefield and Aunt Lidia Phillips moved in with her father to help raise Carrie. Carrie grew up in the Pleasanton community where she graduated high school in 1928. On November 27, 1928, she married John Paul McGrew and moved to a farm in the Wesley Chapel community. Paul preceded Carrie in death on January 18, 1973. Carrie remained on the farm until 1980 then moved into Mound City. In September of 2001, she moved into the Residencies in Pleasanton, remaining there until 2003 when she moved to the Prescott Country View Nursing Home. Carrie was very dedicated to her friends, church and community. Carrie was always generous to anyone in need. A number of years ago she established two scholarships available to any graduating senior in Linn County. The scholarships are administered through the United Methodist Church in Mound City. She was a member of the Mound City United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Mound City Historical Society, Rainbow Extension Unit, Senior Citizens and Concern. She was a generous contributor to several organizations such as Billy Graham Crusade, Cancer Society, Feed the Children, and Youth Front. She is survived by cousins Jim McGrew of Gilmer, Texas, Patricia Ann Cruise of Fort Scott, Kansas, Wanda Forman of Kansas City, Missouri, Elizabeth Crooks and Phillip Gorg, both of Portland, Oregon, and many friends.

Services were held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 25, 2005 at the Mound City United Methodist church. Burial was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Mound. City. Contributions are suggested to the Mound City United Methodist Church.

 

 

William R. Davis

June 1, 1928 - July 23, 2005

William R. Davis, 77, of Pleasanton, KS, died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at his home in Pleasanton. He was born June 1, 1928, at Kansas City, Mo, the son of Willie and Cora Elizabeth Reynolds Davis. He began working at an early age at a gas station, and later at Mt. Moriah Cemetery and finally at Central Armature Co. He married Betty New on March 29, 1947, at Kansas City, KS. He was a Methodist and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pleasanton. He is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; three sons, Gary Wayne Davis and wife, Constance of Lone Jack, MO, Donald Davis and wife, Leslie of Raytown, MO and Ronald Davis of Kansas City, MO; three daughters, Billie Mabry and husband, Jim of Jacksonville, Ill.; Sharon Jordan and husband, David of Overland Park, KS and and Terry Jones and husband, Bill of Pleasanton, KS; one brother, Russell Manes, 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Manetta Caroline Horton

July 19, 1911 - August 8, 2005

Manetta Caroline Horton, 94, of Hume, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 8, 2005. She was born July 19, 1911 at Redfield, Kansas, the daughter of Carl Oscar and Margaret Charlton Peterson. The family moved to Iola, Kansas where she graduated in 1929. She married Harry Edward Horton on July 20, 1934. Harry died July 10, 1978. She was a member of the Hume Methodist Church, a 69 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She worked with Harry for Blaker Lumber & Grain for many years and as manager of the propane company in Hume, retiring in 1978. She also played piano for church for 60 years and for many weddings, funerals and programs and contests for Hume and surrounding communities. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved to be with her family.

She leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and Larry Bogan; one grandson, Loren Bogan & wife, Annette; two granddaughters, Loree White & husband, Mike and Laina Dixon and Steve Miller; four great granddaughters, Stefani, Kaley, Ashtynn & Brianna and soon to be born, Brooklyn; eight great grandsons, Bryon, Kristopher, Robert, Brandon, Brayden, Blaine, Blake and Nikolas and two step great grandchildren; Autumn and Chance; one sister-in-law and husband, Lorene and Harry McClaughry and special nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents; three sisters; three infants and one great grandson, Brett Landon Bogan.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 11, 2005 at the Hume United Methodist Church, Hume, Missouri. Visitation will be from 7-8 PM, Wednesday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Hume, Missouri. Contributions are suggested to the Hume Cemetery. Interment will be in Hume Cemetery.

 

 

Kenneth Melvin Landers

June 22, 1921 - August 8, 2005

Kenneth Melvin Landers, 84, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, August 8, 2005 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born June 22, 1921 in Mound City, Kansas, the son of Melvin and Ada Smith Landers. Kenneth was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. He was a member of American Legion of Prescott, Arizona; VFW of Parker, Arizona and the Eureka Lodge AF&AM, Pleasanton, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Cecil Landers. Survivors include one son, Donald Landers of Lakewood, California; one daughter, Diane Frates of Los Alamitos, California; one brother, Virgil Landers of Merced, California and two grandchildren; Lauren and Erik Frates.

Robert Miller

November 10, 1930 - August 11, 2005

Robert Miller of Linn Valley, KS was born November 10, 1930 near Garnett, KS, the youngest of 6 children. He passed away following a long illness on August 11, 2005. He was the son of Frank and Hazel Williamson Miller. Bob lived in and around Garnett most of his life graduating from Garnett High School in 1948. He enlisted in the Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War. He married Lois Fessler in 1952. To this union were born 4 sons; Steve, David, Dennis and Dan. He retired from Kansas City Power & Light in 1992 moving to Linn Valley Lakes. The Garnett First Baptist Church licensed him as a minister and He followed a course of study in the Baptist Lay Minister Program. He was the pastor of the United Brethren in Christ Church of Garnett for several years. He served as the first full time resident pastor of the Linn Valley Community Church. He also filled the pulpit as a supply Pastor many times. Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank & Hazel Miller, two brothers and their wives, Russell & Nadine Miller, Ernest & Nellie Miller, and one sister, Laura Smith & her husband, Jack. He is survived by his wife, Lois of the home, four sons, Steve Miller & wife, Sandy of Grass Valley, CA, grandsons, Michael Wilkens & wife Erika and great grandson Stephen, of Huntington Beach, CA, granddaughter Jennifer Thomas & husband, Cecil and great granddaughter, Kaitlyn of Yuba City, CA, Brian Miller & Misty Davis of Austin Texas, David Miller & wife, Beverly, grandson, Matt & granddaughter Stacy of Camden, AR, Dennis Miller of Corpus Christi, TX & granddaughter, Danielle of Texas, Dan Miller & Wife, Shellie, grandsons, Will & Wes of Linn Valley, KS, two brothers, Frank Miller & wife, Lois, Melvin Miller & wife, Ilena, all of Garnett, KS, brother-in-law, Dean Fessler of Lillian, TX; many nieces & nephews also great nieces & great nephews.

Paul Creager

May 26, 1907 - August 19, 2005

Paul Kenneth Creager, 98, of Prescott, Kansas, died Friday, August 19, 2005 at Prescott Countryview Nursing Home. He was born May 26, 1907 in LaCygne, Kansas, the son of John and Hattie Lopeman Creager. He taught school in the area schools for a number of years. Paul married Opal Smith on October 25, 1929. She preceded him in death on May 15, 1989. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, LaCygne, Kansas; a Mason and a member of the Kiwanis in California. He helped start CO-OP in LaCygne. He was preceded in death also by his son, Wilbur Curtis Creager; four brothers, Glenn Creager and three brothers who died in infancy; two sisters; Eileen Lawhead and Pauline Strsiak and one granddaughter, April Creager. Survivors include two sisters, Wanda Creager of LaCygne, Kansas and Lela Hanggie of Ontario, California; a brother-in-law, Dale Lawhead; two grandchildren; Paul Curtis Creager and Lori Williams of California; six great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Services were held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Interment will be in New Lancaster Cemetery, Miami County, Kansas.

 

 

Ola Yager

December 31, 1916 - August 20, 2005

Ola Yager, 88, of Prescott, KS died Saturday, August 20, 2005 at the Prescott Countryview Nursing Home. She was born December 31, 1916 near Hammond, Kansas, the daughter of Jake and Stella King Turley. She married Charles Yager on August 4, 1934. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1995. She spent most of her life on the farm except for a few years while she and Charles owned and operated the Drive-In Restaurant in Mound City, Kansas. For 30 years Ola also worked as a seamstress for Thelma's Custom Drapes. She was active in community affairs and clubs for many years. She was also a long time member of the Kansas Quilting Club and the American Quilters. Ola was preceded in death by her parents, twin brothers, Alva and Alfa Turley and one sister, Florence Rice. She is survived by her son Gary Yager and wife, Diane of Smithville, Missouri; three grandchildren Kristy Villalobos and husband, Bart of St. Simon Island, Georgia, Elise Yager of Smithville, Missouri and Tony Yager of Kansas City, Kansas; one brother Cecil Turley and wife, Elsie and several Nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM at the Fairview Cemetery, Fulton, Kansas. No formal visitation. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Hospice.

 

 

Fred Brown

May 25, 1921 - September 12, 2005

Fred Victor Brown, 84, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, September 12, 2005 at Mercy Health Systems, Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born May 25, 1921 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Harry and Pearl Kelley Brown. He married Vivian Fuller on August 23, 1983. Prior to his retirement, Fred worked as a truck driver. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, T.J. Brown; four brothers, Clifford, Clinton, Andy and Joe and three sisters, Lena, Alma and Evelyn. Survivors include his wife, Vivian of Pleasanton, Kansas; one stepson; Gary Levy of Kansas City, Kansas; three brothers, Tom Brown of Mound City, Kansas; Bill Brown of Pleasanton, Kansas and Johnnie Brown of Humansville, Missouri; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and his father-in-law, John Fuller.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Contributions are suggested to the Pleasanton Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Green Valley Cemetery, Pleasanton, Kansas.

Elonzo "Lonnie" Turpen, 75, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Life Care Center, Osawatomie, Kansas. He was born September 14, 1928 in Foster, Missouri, the son of Bueal A. and Anna Lee Wisdom Turpen. He married Ruby McBride on June 1, 1945 at Mound City, Kansas. Lonnie reconditioned used cars for Kipper Chevrolet and Cox Motors, prior to his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Ruby of Pleasanton, Kansas; three sons, Glenn Turpen of Pleasanton, Kansas; Jimmy Turpen of Neosho, Missouri and Robert Turpen of Thayer, Missouri; two brothers, John Turpen of Kennewick, Washington and Tom Turpen of Osawatomie, Kansas; two sisters, Dorothy Kendrick of Warrensburg, Missouri and Fern Tryon of Independence, Missouri; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two step grandchildren and one step great grandchild.

She was born November 12, 1975 in Fort Hood, Texas, the daughter of Bobbie Joe and Mary Ann Britt Young. She was a cashier at Wal-Mart, and had received her CNA and CMA. Jessica attended the First Baptist Church of Pleasanton. She enjoyed bowling, playing pool and she was a member of the Ladies Golf Association at Sugar Valley Lakes. She is survived by her parents; Bobbie and Mary Ann Young of Mound City, Kansas; two sons; David Joseph Ross of Olathe, Kansas and Harley Lee Young of Pleasanton, Kansas; one daughter; Jallisa Dawn Young of Pleasanton, Kansas; one brother, Bobby Joe Young Jr. of Atchison, Kansas; one sister, Julie Ann Hutchinson of Amoret, Missouri and her paternal grandmother, Elsie Young of Portageville, Missouri.

Thomas Seth Arnold age 94 of Pleasanton, Kansas died Saturday September 17, 2005 at Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born on April 16, 1911 at Roxbury, Kansas the son of Robert and Katie Hodges Arnold. He worked in the coal mines for Hume Sinclair before retiring. He married Rhoda Arnold on February 18, 1935; she preceded him in death on December 25, 2004. Also preceding were: two daughters Sarah Mae Lounsbury and Dorothy Mead; three brothers: John, Phillip, and Steve; one sister Amy Guthridge and one grandson Kirk Carpenter. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Pleasanton, Masonic Lodge, Mirza Temple, Scottish Rite Consistory, Order of the Eastern Star and United Mine Workers. He is survived by his son Robert Arnold and wife Margaret of Greenfield, Missouri; daughter Dorothy Haggard and husband Ralph of Raytown, Missouri; two brothers; Emory Arnold of Fort Scott, Kansas and Glenn Arnold of Pleasanton, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 PM Tuesday September 20, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel in Pleasanton, Kansas. Burial in the Littell Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Pleasanton First Christian Church or the Littell Cemetery.

 

 

Junior Clay

July 24, 1936 - September 21, 2005

Junior Clay, age 69, of Osawatomie, Kansas, formerly of LaCygne and Fontana, died Wednesday, September 21, at Miami County Medical Center. He was born July 24, 1936 at LaCygne, the son of Carl and Lucille Marmon Clay. After the death of his mother, he was raised by his grandparents Guy and Myrtle Marmon. He graduated from LaCygne High School in 1954. He married Carol Jean Anderson on May 16, 1959. She preceded him in death on September 24, 1978. Also preceding was a sister, Janice Clay. Junior worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital in nursing and later in security, prior to his retirement. He is survived by three daughters, Janice Deason and Mike of Centerville, Kansas; Sue Clay and Pinkey of Osawatomie, Kansas and Janet Edwards and Bill of Osawatomie; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, his step mother, Ester Clay and companion, Donna Davis of Osawatomie.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 24 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel in LaCygne. Burial in the Star Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-8 PM Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Parkinson's Foundation.

Mark Allen Burns, age 17, of LaCygne, Kansas, died Saturday, September 24, 2005 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born on July 5, 1988 at Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of Lee Burns and Kelli Reeves. He was currently a student in his senior year at Prairie View High School. Before attending Prairie View, Mark had attended Louisburg High School. He was involved in football, wrestling and soccer. He had recently enlisted in the Marine Corp. He is survived by his father Lee Burns of LaCygne, mother, Kelli Jones of Lebanon, Missouri; two brothers, Todd Burns of LaCygne and Tre' Burns of Desert Hot Springs, California; paternal grandparents, Dixie Cousens and husband, Jeff and Bill Burns and wife, Lavonne; maternal grandparents, Vicki and Harry Reeves; maternal great grandparents, Ruby Reeves and Ella Callahan.

Margaret "Louise" Yuille

March 26, 1924 - October 3, 2005

Margaret "Louise" Yuille, 81, of Prescott, Kansas, died Monday, October 3, 2005 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Olathe, Kansas. She was born March 26, 1924 in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of Estel and Crystal Morton Pellham. She married Richard L. Yuille on March 28, 1942. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1978. She was employed as a seamstress with Braemoor Garments and later was a Pizza maker at Casey's in Pleasanton for a number of years. She was a member of the Federated Church of Mound City, Kansas and the Writer's Club in Fort Scott, Kansas. She is survived by one son; Jerry Yuille of Osage City, Kansas; two daughters, Joyce Hearn of Paola, Kansas and Carol Walker of Blue Springs, Missouri; one sister, Lucille Alden of Hamilton, Missouri; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2005 at the Prescott Cemetery, Prescott, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the Shriner's Hospital.

 

 

Robert Willis Weese

February 1, 1912 - October 7, 2005

Robert Willis Weese, 93, of Atchison, Kansas, formerly of Mound City, Kansas, died on October 7, 2005. He was born in Topeka, KS, February 1, 1912, to Earnest Willis and Louise Katherine Weickert. He was married April 12, 1934 in Fort Scott, Kansas to Theresa Hensley. One daughter was born of this union, Lynette Weese. Robert entered the Army in 1943 and was assigned to Camp Crowder, MO. He was a cook in the Army for 4 years. Following his active duty, he remained in the Army Reserves for a total of 26 years. During his life time, Robert enjoyed many interests. He did DHIA testing. Through extension work he did soil testing, worked with 4-H kids, and did 4-H judging. Robert enjoyed consulting with the K-State Horticulture department. He was involved in truck gardening and he raised turkeys and some exotic birds. His interests included an active membership with the American Legion, the Poultry Association and the Kansas Nutgrowers Association. From the mid 1950's to 1994, Robert and Theresa owned and operated Weese's Greenhouse south of Mound City. Robert always had a love for gardening and flowers. Anyone could ask him how to "heal" a plant and he'd help to do it for them. In 1994 they retired to Mound City. Robert moved to Atchison when his wife, Theresa, became ill to be near their granddaughter, Mlle and her family. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, 4 sisters, his daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandsons. He will be missed greatly by one granddaughter, Mlle Caudle, her husband, Neil, and 3 great grandchildren, BreAnne, Brandon and Call of Bendena, Kansas. Also many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the Federated Church, Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 7-8 PM, Monday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City. Contributions are suggested to the Federated Church. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Mound City.

 

 

Charlie Masoner

August 7, 1933 - October 5, 2005

Charlie "The Car Wash Guy" Masoner of Iola, Kanas, formerly of Mound City, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Fountain Villa in Iola. He was born on August 7, 1933 near Prescott, Kansas the son of Charlie M. and Nellie Dasher Masoner. He graduated from high school and attended one year of college at Warrensburg, Missouri. Charles was an Army veteran. He married Virginia Walker on January 22, 1971. During his working career, Charlie worked in insurance, construction, trucking, owned a grocery store, locker plant; and most recently before retirement, storage units and a car wash. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Mound City, Scottish Rite Consistory of Fort Scott and Mirza Temple, Pittsburg, Kansas. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Masoner, two sisters, Ella Beckman and Eula Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of the home; a daughter, Jo Ermel, husband Jim and family; Lacy, Chase and Jacy of Uniontown, Kansas; a son, Dallas Masoner, wife, Mindi and family Sierra and Rhyan of Chanute, Kansas; four sisters, Helen Ballah, Doris Rogers, Charlene Marley and Naomi Lane; and a daughter, Carolyn McAtee of Kansas City, Kansas.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, Octoer 7, 2005 at the Woodland Cemetery in Mound City. No formal visitiation. The family suggests contributions to the Hope Lodge, Allen County Hospice or the Federated Church in Mound City.

 

 

Margaret H. Herndon

November 27, 1910 - October 5, 2005

Margaret H. Herndon, 94, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at the Residencies of Pleasanton. She was born November 27, 1910 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of William and Ursula Balchunas Kadzwick. Prior to her retirement, she was the social secretary at the Illinois Governor's mansion. Preceding her in death were one brother and two sisters. She is survived by one son, Alfred J. Kolom of Overland Park, Kansas; one daughter, Margo H. Dusberger & husband, Roger of Hinsdale, Illinois and three grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:45 AM, Monday, October 10, 2005 at St. John of the Cross, Western Springs, Illinois. Interment will be in St. Casimir Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois.

 

 

Roy A. Shields

June 29, 1931 - October 4, 2005

Roy A. Shields, 74, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 4, 2005. he was born June 29, 1931 to Walter and Verna Shields at the family farm outside LaCygne. he graduated from LaCygne rural High School, Fort Scott Community College and Kansas State University where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He is a 50 year member of LaCygne Lodge #61 AF&AM. Roy was a self-employed entrepreneur in Johnson County for over 30 years before retiring to Mapleton in 1996. He was also a member of the Mapleton United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of over 42 years, Jean Stine Shields, of the home; 2 daughters, Meredith A. Shields of Overland Park, KS and Jennifer L.. Shields of Mapleton, KS and the "light of his life", grandson, Christopher S. Shields of Mapleton, a sister, Fern Tripp of Dinuba, CA; sister-in-laws, Esther Shields of LaCygne, KS and Eunice Bowen of Fresno, CA as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 8, 2005 at the Mapleton United Methodist Church with burial in Jingo Cemetery, rural LaCygne. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Coffel-Schneider-Mangold Funeral Home, LaCygne, KS. The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mapleton United Methodist Church or Hospice Care of Kansas.

 

 

Willis Albert Dingus

May 14, 1915 - October 8, 2005

Willis Albert Dingus, 90, of Park City, Kansas, formerly of Mound City, Kansas, died Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Allen County Hospital, Iola, Kansas. He was born May 14, 1915 in Mound City, Kansas, the son of Ben and Hattie McCulley Dingus. He married Bonnie Baughn who preceded him in death on January 6, 2000. Prior to retirement, Willis was employed with Boeing as a modification mechanic and also owned Dingus Clock Repair. He was a a World War II veteran, serving with the USAF. He was preceded in death also by one son, Albert Dingus. Survivors include two grandchildren, Bret Dingus and Renee Kennedy; two great grandchildren, Cheryl Kennedy and Crystal Morris; a nephew, Charles Smith, cousin, Charles Jones and other extended family.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the Woodland Cemetery, Mound City, Kansas. No formal visitation. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

 

 

Reitha L. Bosshardt

September 10, 1919 - October 13, 2005

Reitha L. Bosshardt, 86, of Olathe, Kansas, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Royal Terrace Nursing & Rehabilitation in Olathe. She was born September 10, 1919 in Ranger, Texas, the daughter of Eldon and Mona Cook Kastl. She married Gene Sutterby and to this union three children were born; Steven, David and Mona. She later married Harvey Bosshardt who preceded her. Prior to her retirement, she was a cook at the Lansing Penitentiary and also worked at the Johnson County Mental Retardation Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olathe and the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death also by three brothers, Robert, Eldon and Calvin Kastl. Survivors include two sons; Steven Sutterby and wife, Mel of Louisburg, Kansas and David Sutterby and wife, Betty of Olathe, Kansas; one daughter, Mona Sadler and husband, Ron of Olathe, Kansas; six step children; two brothers, Melvin Kastl of California and Sherman Kastl of Arizona; one sister, Elva Robinson of Blue Mound, Kansas; three grandchildren; Ted Sutterby, Lora Winslow and Lisa Sutterby; six great grandchildren; ten step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, October 17, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM, Sunday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel. Contributions are suggested to Sunny Slope Cemetery. Interment will be in Sunny Slope Cemetery, Blue Mound, Kansas.

 

 

Patsy Johnson

June 25, 1931 - October 13, 2005

Patsy Johnson, 74, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born June 25, 1931, the daughter of Richard and Alice Chappell. She was married to Stanley Johnson who preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Christina Harkness and Linda Travis and husband, Gary; two brothers, Robert and Darel Chapell; three sisters, Shirley Vaughn, Lorrene Chapell and Diane Chapell and three grandchildren, Tracey, Monica and Matthew.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 17, 2005, at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton. Contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church, Pleasanton. Burial will be in Pleasanton Cemetery.

 

 

Cleda Mae Townsley

July 19, 1908 - October 16, 2005

Cleda Mae Townsley, formerly of Blue Mound, KS, passed away at Prescott Country View Nursing Home on October 16, 2005 at the age of 97. She was born near Blue Mound, KS on July 19, 1908 to John and Beulah Ingram Harris. She spent her entire life in the Blue Mound area. As a girl, she rode horseback to attend Prairie Valley School. In her young adult years, she worked in her uncle's hotel during the busy years of the railroad, which then passed through Blue Mound. On September 26, 1928 she was united in marriage to Melvin Olan Townsley in Fort Scott, KS. He passed away in 1990 after nearly 62 years of marriage. Cleda was a charter member of the Stitch and Chatter Club, \which was organized in December 1930. The women in this club met twice a month to quilt, embroider or do other handwork to help each other as well as provide support for community members and service organizations. This club remained active for nearly 75 years. Cleda was the last living charter member. She was also an active member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church including helping to create a church cookbook and serving apples with caramel made from "scratch" at the church booth during the Mound City Craft Festival. Cleda was a devoted wife, always working alongside her husband on their farm south of Blue Mound. She was an experienced cook, feeding many harvest crews through the years and was well known for her beautifully decorated cakes for area weddings and special occasions. Her grandchildren recall enjoying her leftover sugar roses as special treats on their visits. During the Depression years and long after, she was known as the neighborhood barber, cutting hair for free. She was a special loving mother to her daughter, Juanita Murrow and husband, Dick of Gardner, KS; a special loving grandmother to her granddaughter, Robyn McGuire and husband, Mike of Gardner and to her grandson, Rodney Murrow and wife, Pat, of Olathe, KS and a special loving great grandmother to her great grandsons, Cameron and Cooper McGuire of Gardner and her great granddaughters, Anna and Sarah Murrow of Olathe. All of these family members survive her. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Warren Harris and wife, Mary of Blue Mound, KS; several loving nieces and nephews and a cousin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel; her parents; a brother, Ray and an infant great grandson. Cleda will be truly missed by her family and friends. Her strength and outgoing ways created many memorial that will always be dear in the hearts of those who knew her.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 20, 2005 at the United Methodist Church, Blue Mound, KS. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Contributions are suggested to the United Methodist Church , Blue Mound or Prescott Countryview Nursing Home Activity Fund. Interment will be in Sunny Slope Cemetery, Blue Mound, KS.

 

 

Walter Herman Hopkins Jr.

October 20, 1936 - October 16, 2005

Walter Herman Hopkins Jr., age 68, of Hume, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 16, 2005 at his home. He was born October 20, 1936 at home in Hume, Missouri. He was the third child of Walter Sr. and Viola Phillips Hopkins. He grew up in the Hume community, graduating from Hume High School in 1954. Following high school, Walter worked at Arron's in Fort Scott. In 1956 he married Katherina "Kathy" Ermalee Potter. Kathy passed away in 1976 after a long battle with cancer. Their three daughters, Karen Jean, Kelley Maxine and Karla Sue grew up in Hume while "The Hop" worked at Kansas City Life and Later at Banta Printing for 38 years where he became a Master Printer. In 1977 Walter married Diane White. Junior was well-known in his hometown for "picture perfect" gardens and tons of tomatoes. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing cards and visiting the Kansas City casinos occasionally. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tom. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Diane of the home; his nearby daughters, Karen McKinley and husband, Tim , 'Kelley Hopkins and Karla Davidson and husband, Jeff, all of Hume, Missouri; step-children, Doug White and wife, Shelli, and LeAnna Fisher and husband, Jeff, all of Adrian, Missouri. "Hop" is survived by his grandchildren; Kenney McKinley, Stephanie (McKinley) Chaplin, Cheyenne and Samantha Davidson; his great grandchild-to-be, chaplin and his step grandchildren, Kevin and Jeffrey Fisher and Eerik and Brendin White; two sisters, Edith Peterson and husband, Harry of Fort Scott, Kansas and Dollie Brown and husband, Gary of Fulton, Kansas.

Graveside services will be held at 2;00 PM, Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at the Hume Cemetery, Hume, MO. Contributions are suggested to the Hume Cemetery Association or Heartland Hospice Service.

 

 

Mildred Louise Kauffman Shaffer

July 13, 1919 - August 18, 2005

Mildred Louise Kauffman Shaffer died August 18, 2005 at Antelope Valley Hospital, Lancaster, California. She was born July 13, 1919 on a farm near Amsterdam, Missouri, the daughter of Charlie & Effie Lewis Kauffman. She graduated from High School in 1937 and attended one year of Business School in Sedalia, Missouri. She worked in Kansas City, Missouri for Dills-Monarch United Chemical Company and U.S. Army Engineers who transferred her to Omaha, Nebraska. She joined the U.S. Navy Waves on October 16, 1943. After attending boot camp at Hunter College in Bronx, NY. and Yoeman's School in Cedar Falls, Iowa, she was stationed at Com Gulf Sea Frontier in Miami, Florida before joining the first contingent of Waves to be stationed at the Naval Air Station in Kahului, Maui, Hawaii. She was discharged in January of 1946 and worked for a year in Long Beach, California before being hired by Bechtel Corporation where she worked at their projects in various locations. She later worked for Ober Construction Corp in California for twenty-three and a half years. She married Walter Elwin Shaffer on December 20, 1955 in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. He preceded her in death in 1975. She lived in the San Fernando Valley until April 1982 when she returned to Amsterdam, Missouri, later moving to Butler, Missouri in 1998. She was preceded in death also by one brother, Raymond Kauffman and one sister, Opal Fish. Survivors include one sister, Dora Peak of Long Beach, California; several nieces & nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 27, 2005 at West Point Cemetery, rural Amsterdam, Missouri.

 

 

Mary Norbury Bush

February 22, 1906 - October 26, 2005

Mary Norbury Bush, 99, of Prescott Country View Nursing Home, formerly of Hume, Missouri, died Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at Country View Nursing Home. She was born February 22, 1906 in rural Pleasanton, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Bessie Van Hoozer Norbury . She graduated from Hugh High School in 1925 and moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1927. She was married to William P. Bush, December 6, 1936 and lived most of her life in Wichita. In later years, she lived in California and Washington. Mary was a charter member of the West Link Christian Church in Wichita. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, Edna Dunnington, Lanita Mahler & Edith Martin; three brothers, Edward & Leon Norbury and an infant brother; two nephews; one niece and one step-son. Mary is survived by two sisters, Ann Holmes of Fort Scott, Kansas and Lavon Liles of Prescott, Kansas and two step-sons; John Bush of Wichita, Kansas and Donald Bush of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 29, 2005 at the Hume Cemetery, Hume, Missouri. There is no formal visitation. Contributions are suggested to the Country View Nursing Home or Hume Cemetery.

 

 

Raymond Roy Bledsoe

May 5, 1933 - November 21, 2005

Raymond Roy Bledsoe, 72, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, November 21, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born May 5, 1933 in Shell City, Missouri, the son of Henry and Nettie Wyrick Bledsoe. He was married to Kay Hoffman on November 16, 1984 in Hutchinson, Kansas. Raymond was a veteran, having served with the United States Army. He worked as a welder for Thorco Manufacturing. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Kay, of Pleasanton, Kansas; three sons; Dennis Bledsoe of Wichita, Kansas and Raymond Bledsoe Jr. and Billy Bledsoe, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two daughters, Ranae Nimerick of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Pamela Glass of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one step son, Stacy Base and a step daughter, Shelly; four brothers, Don and Everett Bledsoe, both of Wichita, Kansas, Robert Bledsoe of Fort Scott, Kansas and Howard Bledsoe of Troutville, Pennsylvania; one sister, Violet Carroll of Rich Hill, Missouri and five grandchildren.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 25, 2005 at the Pleasanton Cemetery, Pleasanton, Kansas.

 

 

Reta Fern Arnold

August 23, 1924 - November 12, 2005

Reta Fern Arnold, 81, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born August 23, 1924, near Amoret, Missouri, the daughter of Leonard and Hazel Harris Jones. She was the third of seven children. She married Glenn Arnold on October 31, 1942. She had worked for Baker's Thriftway, the printing office and also 1st State Bank. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton and the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, Glenn of Pleasanton, Kansas; one son, Ronald Arnold and wife, Anita of Leon, Kansas; one daughter, Ronda Ruby of Mission, Texas; four brothers, Elvin, Gerald, Verl and Leon Jones; two sisters, Phyllis Reid and Norma Adams and five grandchildren Cale, Chase and Chelsea Ruby and Dani and Cody Arnold.

Services were held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church. Interment will be in Pleasanton Cemetery.

 

 

Jerry Max Boswell Sr.

February 1, 1935 - November 27, 2005

Jerry Max Boswell Sr., 70, LaCygne, Kansas, died Sunday, November 27, 2005 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. He was born February 1, 1935, the son of Chester and Pauline "Sis" McClanahan Boswell. He worked for Green Cross Drug Store in Kansas City, Missouri and later in parts delivery for Olathe Ford for about twenty years before retiring in 2001. He married Wanda Lou Hammett on March 7, 1954 at the LaCygne Christian Church. He was a member of the LaCygne Christian Church, he loved to fish and hunt, watch the Chiefs and Notre Dame, take trips to the boats in Kansas City and watch the birds he fed at the numerous feeders in the yard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Sis. Also preceding him was a daughter, Sharon "Sid" Tap who died on April 3, 2005. Survivors include his wife, Wanda of the home; three sons, Ed Boswell and Terry Boswell, both of LaCygne, Kansas and Jerry Boswell Jr of Leavenworth, Kansas; one daughter, Cindy Jo Salinas of Olathe, Kansas and one sister, Shirley Conner of Olathe; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 1, 2005 at the LaCygne Christian Church. Visitation is from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. Contributions are suggested to the Lake Mary Center or the LaCygne Christian Church c/o Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Box 304, LaCygne, Kansas. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaCygne, Kansas.

 

 

Howard A. Chadwick

May 11, 1923 - November 28, 2005

Howard A. Chadwick, 82, of Raymore, MO passed away Monday, November 28, 2005 at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, Mo. He was born May 11, 1923 in LaCygne, Kansas, the son of Robert and Effie Bullard Chadwick. He married Lorna June Stutsman on December 19, 1944 in Mound City, Kansas. He worked as a taxi cab driver for a few years and then went to work for the MO Pacific Railroad as a car man retiring in 1983. Survivors include four sons, Howard Lee Chadwick & wife, Paula of Bucyrus, Kansas, Leroy Chadwick and wife, Brenda of Westline, MO, Robert Steven Chadwick of Osawatomie, KS & Dale Allen Chadwick and wife, Cindy of Henson, KS; 2 daughters, Gayle Jones of Mt. Home, Arkansas and Kathy Fitzgerald and husband, Gary of Raymore, MO; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorna on October 21, 2001 and 11 brothers and sisters; Lonie Robert Chadwick, Iona May Waller, LaVina Ellen Potter, Samantha Arbell parker, James Samuel Chadwick, Mary Frances Woodruff, Viola Pearl Jorden, Roberta Florence Flesher, Henrietta Jean Gage, Howard Albert Chadwick and William Lee Chadwick.

Judith Ann Cosens

September 14, 1945 - December 1, 1945

Judith Ann Cosens, age 60, of Gardner, Kansas, died December 1, 1945 at Medicalodge of Gardner. She was born September 14, 1945, the fifth child of the late Fred R. and Florence Wilson Cosens. Diagnosed at birth with Downs Syndrome, she led an active and normal life, always happy, helpful, and somewhat mischievous which always brought a few laughs and entertainment at family gatherings. With her loving nature, she was a friend to everyone. Judy attended elementary school at Mantey through 4th grade and then transferred to the State Training School in Parsons, KS during the winter months until the age of 21. She resided with her mother on the farm west of Mantey until 1972 when they moved to Mound City. She was a member of the Home Interest Club in Mantey and the United Methodist Church in Mound City. Judy & her mother were active in the Senior Citizens program in Mound City where Judy helped with serving the daily meals. When her mother grew older, the roles reversed and Judy became her mother's caregiver until her mother passed away at the age of 98. Judy moved to Medicalodge of Gardner to be closer to her sister, Annette, who has lovingly devoted herself to Judy's needs. Judy will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Fred & Jerry Cosens and one sister, Dorothy Wade. Survivors include her sister, Annette Hoffman of Gardner, KS and a brother, Floyd Cosens and wife, Naomi of Pleasanton, KS and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the Woodland Cemetery, Mound City, KS. Contributions are suggested to either Hospice of Kansas or Medicalodge Activity Fund.

 

 

Charlie Earl Coon

June 28, 1917 - December 2, 2005

Charlie Earl Coon, 88, of Mound City, KS, died Friday, December 2, 2005 at the Louisburg Care Center, Louisburg, KS. He was born June 28, 1917 at Mound City the son of Edwin F. and Elsie M. Craft Coon. He worked at Boeing for 6 years before farming for the rest of his working days. He married Vivian Johnson on April 28, 1940 at Mound City. He was a Marine Corp veteran of World War II. His memberships include: Mound City United Methodist Church, American Legion Hewitt New Post and Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Coon. He is survived by his wife, Vivian of the home; two daughters, Anna Mae Ball and husband, Robert of Duncanville, Texas and Nancy Nadine Stewart and husband, Stan of LaCygne, KS, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Charlie had a philosophy that anything worth doing was worth doing well. He believed in working his ground well for it to produce to the fullest; taking care of his livestock and feeding them well for them to produce well.

Services were held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 5, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, KS. Burial in Woodland Cemetery, Mound City. Contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.

 

 

Treva Eillen Snyder

January 5, 1930 - December 17, 2005

Treva Eillen Snyder, 75, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Saturday, December 17, 2005 at her home. She was born January 5, 1930 in Fulton, Kansas, the daughter of Wayne and Georgia Pryor Cannon. She married Lloyd Snyder on November 5, 1950 at Fulton, Kansas. Treva was a homemaker but during the time that her sons were in school, Treva was a cook at Pleasanton High School. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Stephen and four brothers, Howard Ward, Joe Cannon, Alfred Cannon and Raymond Cannon. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd of the home; three sons, Larry Snyder & wife, Danita of Pleasanton, Kansas; Rick Snyder & wife, Judy of Iola, Kansas; David Snyder & wife, Rita of Ottawa, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Vickie Snyder; one brother, Dewey Cannon of Murray, Utah; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton. Visitation will be Tuesday 7-8 PM, at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. Interment will be in Pleasanton Cemetery.

 

 

Jay Gilbert

Jay Gilbert, 76, of LaCygne, Kansas passed away at his home. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 19, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, LaCygne, Kansas. Interment was in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.

John R. "Bud" Harrison

John R. "Bud" Harrison, 87, of Mound City, Kansas passed away Friday, December 23, 2005 at Country View Nursing Home, Prescott, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Lois of the home, three step-sons; Ed Keating and wife, Debbie of Fort Scott, Kansas, Jerry Keathing and wife, Pam of Forney, Texas and David Keating of Springfield, Missouri; two nieces; Shirley Giese and husband, Bill and Nancy Pruetting and husband, Jim, all of Kansas City, Missouri; one nephew, Ronald Murray and wife, Norma of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Three step grandsons, Marty, Jerod, and Chris Keating and many friends from Sugar Valley.

A memorial service were held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. Inurnment will be in the rich Hill Cemetery, Rich Hill, Missouri. Contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association or the Sugar Valley Golf Course Improvement Fund.

 

 

Raymond B. Johnson

November 17, 1924 - December 23, 2005

Raymond B. Johnson, age 81, formerly of Mound City, Kansas, died Friday December 23, 2005 at Villa St. Francis, Olathe, Kansas. He was born November 17, 1924 in Blue Mound, Kansas, the son of Marion and Viola (Ruby) Johnson. He graduated from Mound City High School and served in the United States Army in World War II. On December 19, 1948, Raymond married Dora Arlene Holt in Mound City. He was a farmer and also worked in the County Engineers Office for 32 years. He was a Methodist and a member of the American Legion Hewitt-New Post of Mound City. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Thomas "Buck" Johnson and Charles Johnson and one sister, Dorothy Clearwater. Survivors include his wife, Arlene of the home; a son, Marion Johnson & wife, Vicki of Eudora, Kansas; a daughter, Theresa Kortemeyer & husband, Lee of Lenexa, Kansas; one brother, Edward Johnson of Mound City, Kansas; three sisters; Maxine Thomas of Pleasanton, Kansas, Edna Skinner of Spring Hill, Kansas and Ruth Maloney of Fort Scott, Kansas; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services were held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at the United Methodist Church, Mound City, Kansas. Interment will be in the Curry Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time at the church. Contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation c/o the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Box J, Mound City, KS 66056.

 

 

Danny William Capp

April 13, 1955 - December 25, 2005

Danny William Capp, 50, of Lacygne, Kansas, died Sunday, December 25, 2005 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. He was born April 13, 1955 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Clifford and Bonnie Austin Capp. He graduated from Prairie View High School in 1973. He worked as an operator at Kansas City Power and Light Generating Station at LaCygne. He married Daisy Kitchell on June 27, 1985 at Miami, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF&AM #61 at LaCygne, IBEW Local #412, the LaCygne Jaycee's. He coached baseball and softball for twenty plus years, and he loved to hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half sister, Kathy. He is survived by his wife, Daisy and son, Tommy of the home, a step-daughter, Lora Chase of Thomasville, Georgia; one brother, Earl Capp & wife, Vicki of Mapleton, Kansas; sister, Vanda Good and husband, Steve of Shell Knob, Missouri; granddaughter, Laynee Nicole Chase and a "grandson on the way", William Robert Marcus Mccoy, a host of nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
